1001 Fasting For Health Benefits

Jakarta - All the Muslims of the world must fasting during the month of Ramadan. In fact, fasting also has many health benefits that have been scientifically proven. Fasting can rest the stomach of the food we consume daily. Many studies have shown that fasting can improve health. A study showed that fasting for a month can help rejuvenate and repair the body. Moreover, the habit of fasting outside the fasting of Ramadan can reduce the risk of diabetes and high blood pressure.

At the International Congress of Health and Ramadan in Casablanca, Morocco, in 1994, 50 studies showing the medical benefits of fasting Ramadan. Based on these studies, it is known fasting can improve health. "In normal conditions, the body's glucose stored in the liver as the primary source of energy. During fasting, sugar reserves will soon run out. After that, fat is the source of energy the human body," said the scientist from Oxford, Razeen Mahroof, quoted from page SH nhs .uk, Monday 22 June 2015.

Mahroof explain if glucose is exhausted body and the role of energy supplies is replaced by fat, so it is good for the body. It will lose weight, lower cholesterol and reduce blood pressure. "Detoxification is true, because the toxins stored in body fat are dissolved and removed from the body," said Mahroof.

However, you should pay attention to the balance between eating and drinking during fasting. "You should eat a balanced diet with the right proportion of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins," said Mahroof.

Meanwhile, the research team of the Department of Medicine Faculty of medicine-RSCM and team nutritionists nutrient installation of RSCM Jakarta in 2013 proved fasting can reduce the fat in the body. The study, entitled The Ramadan fasting decreased body fat mass but not protein in healthy individuals involved were 43 healthy people (the medical staff) who observes the fast of Ramadan in 2013. The inspection includes examination of the complete body composition by using a special tool that is GAIA 359 PLUS ( Jawon Medical , South Korea), anthropometric examination and analysis of daily food intake. The examination was done on the first day of Ramadan, day 28 and 4-5 weeks after Ramadan fasting.

The respondents were given the freedom to consume food as usual when they fast, and there are no restrictions on activity. They still work as normal according to their profession, namely doctors, nurses and nutritionists. The participants consisted of 86 percent women and 44 percent of participants have more weight or overweight (BMI> 23 kg / m2). The average age of participants was 34 years. Body Mass Index (BMI) subjects were 23.7 kg / m2. "During Ramadan there was a decrease in body weight and body composition changes, except the mass of body protein. Similarly, the ratio of waist and hip decreases," said Lead researcher Dr Ari Fahrial.

Weight loss was greater in men than women. The average weight loss in males reached 1.4 kg, while the decline in women is only 0.8 kg. Reduction of body fat to 0.5 kg. In fact, fasting does not cause a decrease in body protein but rather a decrease in body fat levels. Protein is essential for muscle strength either muscle limbs, as well as to respiratory muscle and heart muscle. Fasting which lasts 14 hours will not cause health problems and even body otherwise it will improve just because the burned body does not burn body fat and protein. "Unfortunately, the weight of the participants will return to normal or fast after the first 4-5 weeks after fasting Ramadan," he said.

Unfortunately, the weight of the participants will go up after Ramadan ended. It was pointed out that the commitment to maintain weight during Ramadan are inconsistent and do not last long. "Fasting Ramadan is actually giving us an opportunity to live a healthy life. The problem is it healthy that we have achieved during this Ramadan fasting can we optimize and always be upheld after Ramadan. Moreover, Halloween dish that is usually so tempting and so healthy efforts that have been made during Ramadan did not last long, "said Ari.
